Hope I Don't Jinx Them Again
So the Mets are on a recent tear (tears for the Mets are relative), and are currently in a three-way tie for third place. Of course, this also means that they're in a three-way tie for last place, but if you have the half-empty mentality where the Mets are concerned, you'll take a header off the massive upper deck at Shea.

With David Wright, Mike Jacobs, Carlos Beltran, and especially Mike Hunt, the Mets finally have a small core of young players with which to build for the future. They may or may not pull out a fluke wild card berth this year, but there's finally some light at the end of this 5-6 year tunnel either way. Hopefully Omar Minaya won't make the mistake of taking on high-profile, over-the-hill players that fill seats and cellars (cellars in the standings, that is). But he may be tempted to do so what with the Mets getting ready to launch their new cable network next season. I have this recurring nightmare that involves Sammy Sosa in a Mets uniform, without any of the roids that once made him so great. ...Oh, and the other weird thing about this dream is that Sammy is wearing a thing under his Mets uniform. I'll take it up with my shrink.
