Our Divided Country
I like the way creative people think.
For those of you who don't know, I'm helping to run an artist residency program right now in Vermont. You might not find it surprising that most of the residents (and the directors of the organization) are rather left-leaning in their political views.
So in discussing the vast divide that seems to dominate our country at the moment, I mentioned that my dad had always talked about the years of the Vietnam War being an incredibly divided time. And maybe with some distance we'll look back on this time and see it in similar light (if you think positively, we won't always be this way, you see).
A resident, Carol Zoref, who was in high school during the bulk of the highly politicized Vietnam War years said that while that may be, the War in Vietnam revealed what felt like a generational gap in the country, whereas now it's more about... "I don't want to call it ideology." She thought for a moment.
"It's more like People Who Are Afraid of People vs. People Who Are Afraid of People Who Are Afraid of People."
